It is one of the important anti-oxidants for our body. A study conducted in South Korea has found that lycopene may benefit heart health by boosting our body’s natural antioxidant defences and protects against DNA damage (1). Lycopene also has cholesterol-lowering properties and blood pressure-lowering effect (2).

Why Chia Seeds?

chia-seeds-in-a-bowlChia seed give many benefit to our body. It is also one of the super foods. Why? Because it have ‘superpowers’ nutrients: Omega-3 essential fatty acids, antioxidants, protein, calcium, iron, potassium, vitamins A, B, E, and D, as well as other key minerals. Like flax seeds, chia seeds are very high in Omega-3 fatty acids, with nearly five grams in a one-ounce serving. These fats are important for brain health and overall health.

According to researcher, chia seeds give you stable energy because of their great ratio of protein, fats and fibre combined with the fact that they’re low-carb. Chia seeds may help preventing cravings by making you feel full and overeating. This is because chia seed expend when in liquid, which help you to feel full and reduce your appetite. Other than that, chia is rich in fibre which absorbs large amounts of water and expands in the stomach. This make you feel full and slow the absorption of food. Adding some chia into your diet is good for your digestive health as it is high in fibre. Moreover, by taking chia, it is an easy way to make sure you’re getting a good amount of fibre.

Certain ethnic groups of central Mexico (ancient Aztec warriors) ate chia for their strength and stamina during battle. When you do intense workout, chia can help provide fat or fuel after the carbs burn off. You can even have them during continuous activity such as hiking or bicycling to really boost up your energy levels. Furthermore, they can provide tissue repairing protein after workout and improves exercise performance. Chia seeds is a great pre-workout fuel because it keep you hydrated and functioning at your best.
