Menunaikan Ibadah Puasa Bersama dengan Pakej Ramadhan La Juiceria

The month of Ramadhan is a great opportunity to focus on bringing back a balanced and healthy lifestyle in your life. Through fasting, you will begin to learn how to manage your eating habits, how to improve self-control, discipline and binging. This month requires you to give the stomach a break, and by doing so you are able to break down and expel the accumulated toxins from your body.

Your main metabolic fuel source for bodily function during fasting is mainly fat, which is a good thing, but also at the same time, we need to prevent the breakdown of muscle for protein. The use of fat for energy aids weight loss, preserving the muscles, and in the long run reduces your cholesterol levels. In addition, weight loss results in better control of diabetes and reduces blood pressure.

A balanced food and fluid intake is important between fasts. To prevent muscle breakdown, meals must contain adequate levels of ‘energy food’, such as carbohydrates and some fat. Hence, balanced diet with adequate quantities of nutrients, salts and water is vital.

For the Month of Ramadhan, La Juiceria have specially designed a fibre rich and well-balanced nutrients juice package to suit your body needs during the fasting period. The package includes a selection from the Greens to enrich you with the essential vitamins and minerals for your daily immunity boost, the Beet Aid to keep your stamina up, the Omega Hydrator that is truckload with fibre to keep you feeling full and our limited edition ‘Almond Dates Mylk’, which fits well for the Prophetic traditions. Almond Dates Mylk contains very high levels of potassium which is one of key minerals that keep re-hydration working for the body and also a special nutrient called beta D-glucan, a soluble fibre that can enhance satiety and control food urge.

The below is the recommended juice sequence specially designed by our in-house nutritionists to ensure you are getting adequate energy and essential nutrients to sustain throughout your fasting period.

It’s a perfect blend of delicious watermelon, beet root and apple! This refreshing juice is not only pleasant to the taste buds, but has many health benefits in it as well.

Watermelon is a rich source of lycopene, the carotenoid compound that gives watermelon their red colour. It is one of the important anti-oxidants for our body. A study conducted in South Korea has found that lycopene may benefit heart health by boosting our body’s natural antioxidant defences and protects against DNA damage (1). Lycopene also has cholesterol-lowering properties and blood pressure-lowering effect (2).

Next, all the ladies would want to listen up! Lycopene has anti-aging properties! It is beneficial for the skin as the antioxidants will decrease free radicals from the body and supresses the process of aging effectively. Watermelon acts as a natural moisturizer and keeps the skin glowing and well hydrated. Too good to be true, no?

As for all the men in the house, the benefits are great for men too! Lycopene is proven to enhance prostate health. A Canadian study reported that lycopene plus selenium and vitamin E was effective in inhibiting prostate cancer in mice. Are you eating right?

have-a-healthy-new-year-from-la-fitness           We are supposed to be practicing “eat to live”, not live to eat. The food that we eat every day are converted into nutrients that our body needs and are being utilized by our body to function well. Nevertheless, nowadays, with this modern era and higher demand of ‘tasty’ foods and ‘fast’ foods, people are getting unhealthier and developing a sedentary lifestyle. Getting the right nutrition and exercising regularly are the two of the most important elements in order to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

When we eat our food, liver is the main detoxification organ to help digest and process all the waste products from our body. However, if a person is not getting the right nutrition and always eat unhealthy foods, such as pizza, steak, fast foods, alcohol, instant noodles and other processed foods, the body will create a warning alarm to inform you that your body need a rest!  Symptoms will show up and that means you need to start paying attention to what you eat.

The symptoms may include:

  • Increased body fat or visceral fat
  • Congested sinus
  • Acne
  • Itchy skin
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Moodiness

If you have 4 or more of the signs mentioned above, then you may need to think back and reflect on the diet and lifestyle you are having. Perhaps your body is not getting the right nutrition. Our body needs carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and fiber to maintain a healthy body system. Balance is the key to a wholesome diet.

However, Malaysians are not consuming enough of fruits and vegetables compared to their consumption of other staple foods, such as meat and rice. According to the statistics from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the result indicated that fruits and vegetables consumption in Malaysia between 1980 and 2003, was achieving 57% recommended intake (WHO dietary guidelines: 5 servings) only (FAOSTAT, 2009).

So how can you increase your consumption of much needed fruits and vegetables? Through juicing!

Juicing allows you to consume an optimal amount of fruits and vegetables in an efficient manner. It allows you to consume a wide variety, which means veggies and fruits that you usually won’t eat, you will most likely be able to drink it down.  And because it is in liquid form, your body can easily absorb the nutrients.

Juice cleansing is also a good way to allow your body to naturally go into a detox mode. Cold-pressed juices will flood your body with live nutrients, including essential vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that will help you to release the toxins, which  we have  accumulated in the body over time because of what we eat and how we live.

There is a proverb saying that, ‘the new one won’t be coming if the old one does not go away’. Juice cleansing allow your body to release these toxins to regain balance, normalize digestion and metabolism. You will be amazed with the improvements it will bring to  your body . Your body definitely will thank you for it. Try a  juice cleanse today! Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Diet for Dengue Patient / 骨痛热症病人的饮食

Dengue is the most common emerging viral disease of humans that in recent decades has become a major international public health concern. The hot and humid weather in Malaysia also yield the breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitos.

Patients with dengue fever have to keep hydrated at all times. Malaysian Dietitian Association (MDA) president, Prof Dr Winnie Chee mentioned fluid intake should be at frequent interval to compensate for the loss from urination and sweat for excreting wastes. Other than fluid, calorie and protein intake should be increased by 50% of the daily requirement. Protein is very important in replenishing for protein tissue during fever, the protein food sources including milk, eggs, fish, poultry and legumes. Although a high calorie diet is needed for dengue fever, but avoid fried and oily foods. They need to take readily digestible foods in order to have better absorption, eg. porridge, boiled foods, and green vegetables.

papaya leaf extractResearch also demonstrated that papaya leaf juice can help in recovery from dengue fever, because it induced rapid increase in platelet count in patients with grade one and two dengue fever and the fatal dengue haemorrhagic fever [1].

So, how to prepare papaya leaf juice? It is very simple. You will just need 2 fresh papaya leafs and blend using slow juicer, food processer, or blender. The pure papaya leaf juice has a very bitter taste. Hence, add 1 to 2 teaspoon of honey or other fresh fruit juices to make it more palatable to drink after filtering. Then, take 2 tablespoon of the papaya leaf juice every 6 hours, preferably 3 times a day.

Below are the recommended juices from La Juiceria that are beneficial for dengue patients:

  • Goodness Greens
  • Tropical Greens
  • Celery Cilantro Punch
  • Orange Power
  • Almond Mylk
  • Vanilla Cashew Mylk

科学研究显示木瓜叶汁能帮助骨痛热症发烧的病人复原,这是因为木瓜叶汁能增加第一级及第二级出血性骨痛热病人的血小板数量 [1]。

Chlorophyll Water

leaf-highChlorophyll is a green pigment found in plants and it supports the growth of plants by absorbing sunlight to synthesis food. The interesting fact about the chlorophyll is its molecular structure is similar to heme, a red pigment found in our blood and is the oxygen carrying portion of haemoglobin. Both haemoglobin and chlorophyll play a vital role in life processes. Haemoglobin is an iron-containing conjugated protein similar to chlorophyll, but the central atom of chlorophyll is magnesium instead of iron.

Chlorophyll improves the quality of red blood cells by increasing the number of your red blood cells and hence, result in better oxygen transportation and make you feel energetic.

On the other hand, studies showed that chlorophyll has healing properties, treating conditions ranging from respiratory tract infections to cancer lesions. Other research also showed that chlorophyll helps prevent inflammation due to its antioxidant content. It also helps in deodorizing for bad breath or body odor, and enhanced wound healing [1].

Another important fact about chlorophyll is, it is an effective agent for detoxification! It detoxify your liver and cleanses your digestive tract by removing putrefactive bacteria from the colon, and helps heal the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

Last but not least, chlorophyll acts like a stored sunshine in our body, performing like vitamin D in regulating calcium. Therefore, for those people who always stay in indoor, such as office workers who receive least sunshine, will need more greens to help regulate calcium in our body [2].
